This bee balm is a tall, showy native in the Rocky Mountains. This Hunt’s Bumblebee is a native pollinator in Colorado. This is part of a series I will be sharing some designs from called Colorful Colorado that I worked on in 2023. The series is digital ink and gouache, hand drawn and painted in Procreate on an iPad Pro with an Apple Pencil.
The idea behind this series was to show that these animals are all around us, if we stop to look. They are integrating themselves- some more successfully than others- into our advanced world of architecture and technology. The geometric diamond surrounding them and the mirrored quality worked into the flower itself and the stained glass behind it encourages the viewer to look past their daily world to notice these small animals and include them in their view of a beautiful planet.
